Paperwork without the panic
What to prepare for your application, and how the JW202 form and the student visa work — in order.
Application documents
Passport
Valid for at least 12–18 months beyond your planned arrival. Check blank pages for visas.
Diploma and transcripts
Notarized translation into Chinese or English. Some universities also ask for an apostille — check the requirements early.
Language certificate
HSK/HSKK for Chinese-taught programs, IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught. Not needed for a language year.
Medical certificate
The Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed by an authorized clinic. Valid for 6 months.
Clean-record statement
A police clearance certificate, sometimes with notarized translation. Requirements vary by university.
Study plan and recommendations
Especially important for master's, PhD and scholarship applications — they carry real weight in the competition.
